Nidelia Montoya

Nidelia Montoya, born in Alamogordo, New Mexico, longtime resident of El Paso was known by many names, including Nidelia, Delli, Pooh Bear, Auntie Nidelia and Dr. Montoya. Each name represented the many facets of her life and career. She is survived by her parents, Pablo B. and Martha C. Montoya, her sister Ysella and husband, Oscar Perez, and her brother Benito A. and wife, Elsa Montoya. She was preceded in death by grandparents Fred and Beatrice Romero and Pablo H. and Dominia Montoya. Nidelia graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1986 and then she attended New Mexico State University, earning a master's degree in education and a doctorate in education administration. Her teaching career began in Anthony Independent School District, in Texas, then she taught at Alamogordo High School. Nidelia moved to El Paso in 1998, when she began her administrative career with the Ysleta ISD, Socorro ISD, and El Paso ISD. Through her fight with cancer over the last year, family, friends and co-workers shared tears and laughter remembering serious and silly times over the last 45 years. Auntie Nidelia spent many winter, spring and summer breaks with nieces and nephews, participating in cookie day, movie day, ending with dollar store selections, while teaching each of them lessons that they would carry on the rest of their life, Cassandra, Nikki, Mia, Patrick, Andrez, Emilio and Armando. Additionally her 15 grandnieces and nephews, Alyssa, Evan, Isabelle, Zaden, Nikki, Lexie, Angelo, Xander, Xane, Diamante, Jayden, Sammy, Giovani, Lukas, and Lorenzo will hold her in their hearts forever. The family would like to thank each of you for your continued support and prayers over Nidelia at the end of her journey. Services are scheduled for Friday, May 2, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 705 Delaware Ave., in Alamogordo. A rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m. After the services, the family invites you to a gathering of friends and family to celebrate her life by sharing a meal in the ICC Parish Hall.
