Paula Meechan-Beck

Paula Corrinne Meechan-Beck lost her short but brave battle against cancer on April 27, 2013 surrounded by her loving daughters and son-in-law. Paula was born Dec. 15, 1935 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Robert & Corrinne Fitzke. Her father was a professional baseball & football player which led them to many different cities before settling in Boise, Idaho where Paula grew up. She went on to represent Boise in the Washington D.C. Cherry Blossom Festival. Paula worked for a congressman there and also did some professional modeling. It was during this time that she met and married Air Force pilot Richard J. Meechan. They were stationed over stationed overseas in France & Germany, then back to Holloman Air Force Base. They had two daughters, Lora Louise and Lisa Marie Meechan. Colonel Meechan served in the Korean War, then did two tours in Vietnam where he was killed in 1972. Paula later met George Beck while she was judging a Miss New Mexico pageant in Las Cruces, and they were married shortly after and had a daughter Lyra Lynn Beck. George passed away in November of 1992. Paula then became very active in numerous volunteer organizations such as DARE, Crime Stoppers and many others. Paula was an avid tennis player and made numerous friends on the tennis courts. She went on to become a volunteer at both the Las Cruces Police Department and Dona Ana County Sheriff's office working on child abuse reports, she was voted volunteer of the year in 2003. Paula is survived by her daughter Lisa Meechan-Walch and husband Andrew Walch of Las Cruces. Daughter Lora Meechan-Liske and husband Fred Liske and their two children Rachel & Parker Liske of Windsor, Colorado. Daughter Lyra Beck-Hynie, husband Jessie Hynie and son Gunnar Wayne Hynie of Las Vegas, Nevada. Son Richard Beck and daughters Michelle, Lisa Marie and son Richard George Beck of El Paso, Texas and too many honorary daughters to name. Cremation has taken palce and a memorial service will be held at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home at 555 W.
