Rodolfo Flores

Rodolfo "Rudy" Flores, 73, was called home by our heavenly Father on October 11, 2013 at MountainView Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family and close friend, Mrs. Connie Ferrales. He was born to Onofre and Socorro Flores on July 9, 1940 in La Mesa, NM. Rudy began his career with the Las Cruces Fire Department as a firefighter in June 1968 and retired in June 1995 as a fire inspector. He also retired from the New Mexico National Guard as a sergeant in Second Battalion of the HHB 2d Bn (CHAP) 200th ADA after 26 years of service. Rudy enjoyed hunting, fishing and vacationing in Las Vegas, Nevada with close friends and visiting his childhood buddies in La Mesa. He had a passion for reading and spent almost every morning at the library followed by his daily outings for lunch at the Eastside Community Center. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 47 years, Anna Flores; one son, Danny Flores and wife Margaret of San Miguel; one daughter, Rachel Quintanilla and companion Mercy Mondragon of Wagon Mound; two grandsons, Daniel Omar and Marco Antonio Flores both of San Miguel; three brothers, Alfredo, Robert (Martha) both of Las Cruces, and Ruben and companion Gerald Gordon of Oakland, California; two sisters, Maggie Almaguer of Dallas, Texas, and Meli March of Las Cruces; and a niece whom he was very close to, Becky Romero of New Jersey. Other survivors include brother-in-law, Ernest Rodriguez (Martha); sisters-in-law, Marcie Chavez (Arturo), Gena Ruiz (Eliberto) and Josie Romero as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Florinda Barajas; brother Tony; nephew Gilbert and niece Irene. Visitation for Rudy will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m.. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 in Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, 1178 N. Mesquite Street with Fathers of the Order of Augustinian Recollects officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by a New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment. Members of the Las Cruces Fire Department will also be providing honors on his behalf. Cremation will follow and Inurnment of Cremains will take place at a later date. Serving as casket bearers will be Alfredo Flores, Kenny Legarreta, Jose Ferrales Jr., Antonio Marta, Robert Ramirez, Angel Torres and Manuel "Smiley" Vargas.
