Rosalio "Chalio" Gutierrez, 72, of Las Cruces, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. "Chalio," as he was fondly known to family and friends, was born Dec. 23, 1940 in Monticello, N.M. to Lucio and Rosita Gutierrez. Throughout his life, Rosalio's supportive, hardworking and kind nature made him always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His dedication allowed him to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later excel in his professional life, working at Price-Black Dairy in Arrey, managing both TG&Y stores in Las Cruces and retiring from White Sands Missile Range with the Department of Defense. His devotion to his family and friends was tireless. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Gloria Sanchez Gutierrez of the family home; his children, Kenneth and Teresa; their spouses, Cyra and Steve; and five grandchildren, Jessi Rose, Kennedy, Hannah, Vaughan and Santana. Other survivors include three siblings, Jennie Olivas Baca, Elena Sedillo and Lucio Gutierrez, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Margaret Ivy, Beatrice Nuañez, Inez Salas, Rufina Frias and Lenor Bierner, and three brothers, Beto Gutierrez, Cruz Gutierrez and Anselmo Gutierrez. Visitation for Chalio will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. The holy mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Immaculate Heart to Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina St., with Rev. Martin Cornejo, Celebrant. Military honors will be accord by the New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League - El-Perro Diablo Detachment. At his request cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral Columbarium. Serving as casket bearers will be Gary Nuanez, Ricky Sedillo, Carl Wayne Gutierrez, Ruben Olivas, Gilbert Gutierrez and Arthur Sanchez.
