Santiago "Jim" Olivas lost a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Jim was born on July 14, 1950, to Antonio and Rita Soto Olivas in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita Soto Olivas. He is survived by his father, Antonio Olivas, brother, Tony Olivas (Chita) of Canutillo, Texas, Dan Olivas (Misie) of Avondale, Arizona, Sam Olivas of Las Cruces; his sisters, Lupe Olivas of San Jose, California, Linda Olivas of Las Cruces, Teena Smith (Frank); and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Sylvia Olivas, the mother of his children; he will be missed dearly by Jaime Olivas Jr. (Carmela), Diane Michelle (Chris) Barela, Louie Olivas and six beautiful grandchildren Jenevah, Elijah, Leah, Krista, Eva and baby. Jim loved fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a hard worker whose occupation involved the auto parts industry. He worked with several local auto parts stores in town and dedicated his last 20-plus years to Pep Boys. Jimbo's favorite colors were black, white and deep purple. He enjoyed tinkering with vehicles and painting them with his favorite colors. He was an avid Elvis fan and will always be remembered for his "shake a leg" and Elvis moves.
