Theresa "Jane" Larkin, 86 years old, died peacefully on Feb. 6, 2014 while in home hospice, lovingly cared for by her daughter, Gail Larkin and son-in-law John Deck of Las Cruces. Jane also received wonderful support from Mesilla Valley Hospice and Dr. Sheila Kelly. Her strong will to live, in addition to the love and prayers of family and friends, sustained her during her last days. Born on Jan. 16, 1928 in Queens, NY to Gladys and Ferdinand Abel, Jane was the second of four sisters; Katherine "Kitty" Richman (deceased) of California; Mary Hourihan (deceased) of New Jersey; and Ann Muller of Pocono Summit, Pennsylvania. Married to William Larkin of New York City for 49 years, Jane and Bill raised their two children, Gail and Jeffrey in New York City and later in Old Bridge, NJ, where Jane remained for 50 years. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Bill, who died on Feb. 4, 1999 and her son Jeffrey (of New Jersey) who died suddenly at the age of 49 on Jan. 22, 2013. Jane moved from New Jersey to Las Cruces in May 2013 to be near her daughter. Jane is survived by her daughter, Gail Larkin and her husband, John Deck of Las Cruces; granddaughter Jessica Larkin and her fiancée, Taylor Byron of Las Cruces; sister, Ann Muller of Pocono Summit, Penn.; brother-in-law, Billy Hourihan of Cliffwood Beach, NJ; nieces and nephew especially Michelle Richman of Escondido, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Nancy Saykanics of Manahawkin, NJ and her Sammy; people who were like family, Peter Chamas and Judy Stevens and by her beloved Yorkie puppy, Sophie. Following cremation at the Getz Funeral Home of Las Cruces, there will be a private memorial held at the home of Gail and John for family and friends only. In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations can be made to Safe Haven Animal Shelter, Las Cruces in tribute to Jane's lifelong love of animals.
