Alice Jane "AJ" Dunn, as her nieces and nephews knew her, passed away peacefully after a very short illness on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013. Her husband Richard Dunn preceded her in death. She is survived by her nieces Carolyn Anderson, Barbara Andrews and Katherine Dunn and her nephews, Jim Biggam, Russell Biggam and John Dunn. Born in Duluth, Minn. on Oct. 1, 1927, AJ graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in fine arts and a master's degree in library science. While at the University, AJ met and married Richard Dunn. They spent more than 20 years living in Sacramento Peak, N.M., where Richard designed, built, and operated a unique vertical-axis solar telescope. Upon Richard's retirement at Sacramento Peak, AJ's love of music prompted them to move to Las Cruces, where she participated in the Las Cruces Symphony playing the cello and Richard worked as treasurer. AJ was very proficient in Brailing and won an award for translating musical scores for the blind. AJ will be sorely missed for her sense of humor and wise counsel. At her request cremation will take place and no services are scheduled at this time. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels and Sunset Crematory, 300 E. Boutz Road, Las Cruces. 527-2222.
