 Tomas A. "Tommy" Baca died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, in El Paso, Texas, after an extended illness .A Visitation will be held at Bright Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 5:00pm with a Rosary Recital beginning at 6:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at St. Vincent Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery. He was born Dec. 21, 1923, in Silver City. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Toribio and Florencia Baca; his maternal grandparents, Monicio and Cleofas Arroyos; and his parents, Julio and Josefa Baca. He was also preceded by two brothers, Ben and Julian; and the mother of his children, Amelia Richarte Baca. Surviving him are his wife of more than 30 years, Pauline; his five children, Manuela Jenkins, Irene Archuleta (Ben), Fred Baca (Lynn), Florence Armendariz and companion Frank Sosa, and John Baca; his grandchildren, Jeanette Betancur, Lanette Betancur, Camille Lopez (James), Rene Baca, Roman Baca and Frances Fischer (Ben); his great-grandchildren, Danny Uranza (Maribel), Alyssa Betancur, Jackie Betancur and companion, Juan, Marissa Roman and companion, Omar, Stephanie Betancur and companion, Albert, Angel Betancur, Antonio Roman Baca, Gabriel Leonardo Baca, Xavier Lopez, Brianna Fischer and Seth Fischer; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Rudy Fernandez (Elma), Yvonne C. and Alma Natale (BJ). Also surviving Mr. Baca are five sisters, Manuela Leyba, Maria Chavez, Esperanza Silva and Josie Madrid of Silver City, and Frances Orosco of Bayard, and a brother, Albert Baca of Silver City. Mr. Baca served in the Army of the United States in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign during 1944-45 and received an EAME Campaign Medal. He also served in the Philippines during 1946-47 and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Philippines Independence Ribbon. He was a lifelong member of the VFW. Mr. Baca was employed by Dr. Maurice Parrish, DDS, and Chino Mines Company. He and his wife enjoyed dancing and having parties with family members and friends. He took great pride in his Mexican culture and enjoyed rancheras and mariachi music. His hobby was working on and fixing his house. Mr. Baca worked had to instill good values in his children. He believed that knowing how to work would make strong and independent individuals. He also believed that education was important for their future. He taught his children the value of work when they were youngsters. He admired and respected the achievements of his children. Pallbearers are René Baca, Manuel Orosco, Frank Silva, Eddie Rangel, Ricky Chavez and Raul Arroyos. Honorary pallbearers are Albert Baca, Julio Chavez, Ben Archuleta, Frank Sosa, Greg Gomez, Joe Rios and Manuel Palacio.
