Carol Dunn, age 82 of Las Cruces passed away July 2, 2013. She was born on May 18, 1931 to Neta and Paul Chandler in Emporia, Kansas, the second of three children. Her family moved from Emporia to Wheaton, Illinois when she was 16 years old. After graduating from high school in Wheaton, she attended University of Illinois for a year before marrying and settling in New Mexico. Carol was a talented writer and journalist, photographer, taught yoga, loved music, the outdoors and camping, and could get anything to grow anywhere. She was always "ahead of her time" and formed the first Natural Food Co-op in El Paso, Texas in 1969, and was instrumental in starting the Las Cruces Farmers' Market. A founding member of Las Cruces Community Theatre, Carol was an amazing actress and starred in many of the early theatre productions. She loved reading and learning new things; graduated from New Mexico State University on her 50th birthday, and instilled adventure and wonder in her beloved grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Cynthia Schmitz (Bob), her daughters Catherine Giblin (Joel) and Christine Goodwin (Gerald), step-children Linda Williams and Chance Williams, grandchildren Damon, Alana, Kayla, Ryan and Jake, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack Chandler, her son Richard Dunn and her great-grandson Nathan Dove. She was beloved by her family and friends and will be missed by all.
