Christina Marie Hidalgo-Palma, 43, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away in the comfort of her own home at 6:57 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013. Christina was joyfully born into this world on May 10, 1970 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Joe and Lupe Hidalgo. She married the man of her dreams, the light of her life, Dean Palma, on August 8, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Dean Palma; her loving, furry Shitzu "babies" Papi Chulo and Baby GaGa; her loving dad Joe E. Hidalgo and her precious mom Lupe Hidalgo; her fun-loving brother Joey Hidalgo and wife Sylvia Hidalgo; her sweetest, most loving sister Dolores "Dee" Hidalgo-Coe and her husband Brett Coe; her loving baby sister Cecilia Hidalgo and Jeff Borunda; her precious nieces Deven and Domenique Borunda and treasured nephews Jeffrey and Amadaeuz Borunda; she is also survived by her furry "nephew" Chico Hidalgo-Coe and furry "niece" Moki Hidalgo-Coe. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Guillermo and Simona Hidalgo, Santiago and Socorro Olivarez, her Uncle Tony Olivarez, her cousin Rene Olivarez and furry "niece" Lola Hidalgo-Coe. Christina was born and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the city she loved so dearly. She graduated from Mayfield High School in 1988. She moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she lived for a few years and studied graphic design. She moved back to Las Cruces and studied at Eastern New Mexico University and successfully received her Master's of Arts degree in Communication Disorders. She worked and took sincere pleasure in her job as a speech language pathologist. Christina had a strong compassion and commitment to helping children and she was honored to work so generously with her community. She followed in her dad's footsteps and was an amazing, talented artist; she adored spending time with her beautiful blue-eyed soul mate, Dean, and her loving family and great friends; she loved walking her furry "babies" and cooking delicious meals with her husband. She loved collecting Hello Kitty memorabilia and enjoyed watching movies; Christina took immense pleasure in listening to music, of all kinds, and relished any opportunity to rock-out at a live concert. Christina enjoyed traveling in the company of her husband to wonderful destinations such as Belize, Mexico and had fun on road trips to the Pacific Northwest Coast; she admired the great outdoors, gardening and loved and cherished beautiful, colorful flowers of all varieties. She always stopped to "smell the roses" and reminded those she loved to do the same. Christina truly cherished every blessed moment in her life. Truth and honesty were characteristics in others that were very important to her. She was kind, loyal and sensitive. She had a special place in her heart for the City of the Crosses, Las Cruces, the city she called home. Christina also admired what she called the "majestic Organ Mountains" and the beautiful New Mexico skies. Christina wanted to thank everyone who so graciously offered warm thoughts and prayers throughout these difficult and trying times. Dean Palma was an integral part of Christina's life and her family is forever grateful for the care, support and never-ending love he provided to his wife, Christina, while she fought her courageous battle with breast cancer. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home located at 555 W. Amador Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88005.
