Gilbert Guerra Medrano, 65, a resident of Silver City, N.M., entered eternal rest Sunday, April 14, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 21, 1948, in Silver City to Gilbert Medrano and Julia Guerra. Gilbert proudly served his country during the Vietnam era with the U.S. Navy. He worked and retired from Kennecott and Phelps Dodge for over 30 years. He worked in utility and as a truck driver. He loved muscle cars. He enjoyed going to car shows. He, himself, owned a Mustang. He loved fishing and camping every year with his family. Gilbert enjoyed archery and participated in archery shoots. He was known for his sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Martha Medrano, of the family home; one son, Gilbert Joseph Medrano and wife, Julie, of Silver City; one daughter, Valerie Medrano Lujan and husband, James, of Las Cruces; two step-daughters, Mindy Castro and husband, Victor, and Michelle Chilcott and husband, James, both of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, Lexi Lujan, and Abrielle, Ghei and Amos Medrano; step-grandchildren, Elisa, Sarah, Santiago, Blanca, Nadine, Miranda, Levi and Anthony; step-great-grandchildren, Jaden, Domonic, Johanna and Joseph Anthony; two brothers, Manuel Chacon of Bayard and Frank Chacon of Deming; five sisters, Beatrice Valerio and the late Robert of Silver City; Lydia Estrada of Farmington, N.M.; Connie Chacon of Illinois; Eva Medrano Lopez and husband, Jesus, of Pojoaque, N.M.; Laurie Medrano Chacon and husband, Fred, of Henderson, Nev.; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 20, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m at Terrazas Funeral Chapels, with the holy rosary to be recited by Deacon Bill Holguin at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will commence at 11 a.m. at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Deacon Bill Holguin officiating. Pallbearers will be Judy Valerio Padilla, Gloria Flores, Jack Lopez, Javier Lopez, A.J. Tow, Gilbert Valerio and James Lujan. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Padilla, Anthony Padilla, Alyssa Padilla, Michele Flores, Maria Flores, Leo Ogas, Orlando Ogas, Mindy Castro and Michelle Chilcott, and the rest of his family and friends.
