Harry O. Smith 82, of Las Cruces, N.M., went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 21, 2013. He was born in Grantsville, W.Va. to the late Seymour Smith and Annie Burrows Smith. He was a proud American soldier and a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army, 5th Infantry Regiment between 1952-1957. He was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. After being honorably discharged he settled into civilian life with his wife and kids, where he worked for the labor unions in both West Virginia and New Mexico. After retiring he became very active in the Baptist Church. When he wasn't serving the Lord he enjoyed reading and taking care of his pets. He will be missed by his wife of 13 years Diane Smith; three sons Larry Smith, Stephen Smith, Alan Smith and a daughter Mary Smith. A step-son Jason Jameson and step-daughter Jennifer Lozano. Eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy M. Smith and infant Harry L. Smith. A memorial service with military honors presented by the U.S. Army will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 31 at Scripture Baptist Church on Elks Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Harry's name to Scripture Baptist Church 4440 Elks Drive, Las Cruces, N.M. 88007
