Jesus A. Jimenez, 86, of Las Cruces passed away on May 1, 2014. He was born to the late Jesus and Delfina Jimenez, Feb. 25, 1928, in Deming. Jesus married his lifetime companion, Bertha Ibarra, on Jan. 14, 1956. A longtime member of the Las Cruces community, he lived a life of service to country, community and church. Jesus served our country during the Korean conflict and was active with the American Legion. He served the communities of Deming and Las Cruces through his work with various charities and organizations. Jesus served his parish, St. Genevieve Catholic Church, and the surrounding community through his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus. As a fourth degree Knight he will be revered and missed by his brothers and extended family of the Knights of Columbus. Jesus began working at the age of 15 for the Southern Pacific Railroad; he retired and went on to become a small business owner, and a retired postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service. He is survived by his wife, Bertha, of Las Cruces; their four children, Elia and husband, Gene Pettit, of Las Cruces, Sergio Jimenez of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Henry Jimenez, of Corrales, New Mexico, and Carrie and husband, Tommy Aguirre, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Brandi Baltier, Jesse Rich, Sergio and Adrianna Jimenez, Lauren and Allison Aguirre; and three great-grandchildren. Jesus is also survived by two sisters, Margaret and husband, Alfredo Alvarez, Nellie and husband, Grant Young. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Paul and Raul Jimenez and three sisters Sally Shannon, Anita Alvarez and Laura Silva. Calling hours will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, followed by rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina. Military honors will be accorded by a New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment. Serving as casket bearers will be Carlos Armendariz, Carlos Castro, Bob Duffey, Mike Frietze, Manny Morales and Danny RiveraIn lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to the , P.O.
