Larry Jack Montoya, 55, was called peacefully to heaven on Thursday, May 26, 2014, surrounded by his brothers and sister. He was born on April 1, 1959, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Larry lived in Las Cruces with his family and became the inspiration and reason Angel Care of NM came to serve adults with developmental disabilities. He participated in Special Olympics in his younger years, traveling to Notre Dame as an international qualifier in swimming, winning numerous gold medals. Larry loved to socialize and had a bright, outgoing personality. He knew most people in town, and if he didn't, he'd make sure to say hello and introduce himself. Larry was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, he was spiritual and loved the Lord. Larry will be remembered as active, fun loving and full of life. He loved his family, listening to music, the Dallas Cowboys and when others called him "The Boss." Survivors include his sister, Isabel Montoya; brothers, Danny Montoya and Sammy Montoya (Deon); niece Angela Ledesma (Jerry); nephews, Danny Montoya II (Genevieve), Guy De la Cruz; great-nieces, Raquel Weatherley, Avery Ledesma, Bonnie Montoya and many others who cared for and made sure Larry was happy and lived life to the fullest. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Bonnie and Lencho Montoya. Visitation for Larry will be held Monday, June 30, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral Mass at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina, with the Rev. Donald Adamski officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, 100 N. Espina, where he will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be friends, David Jacquez and Marco Garcia, cousins, Pat Mirabal and Michael Medina, nephews, Danny Montoya II and Jerry Ledesma, and brothers, Sammy Montoya and Danny Montoya. Honorary bearers will be his Angel Care of NM family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to La Posada - Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana Ave., Las Cruces NM 88005.
