Leslie Ann Coutant, 66, of Timberon and Las Cruces, N.M., passed away in August 2013. A memorial service will be held at the Double Eagle Restaurant, 2355 Calle de Guadelupe in Old Mesilla at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014. Leslie was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 1, 1946. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Michigan and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor as well as graduate degrees from the University of Arizona in Tucson and New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Leslie was married to Stuart Cameron Brown in 1985; they were married 25 years. Leslie worked as an instructor of writing at New Mexico State University for several years. She enjoyed horseback riding, painting and volunteering with Hospice. Leslie is survived by her brother, William Arthur Coutant, her niece Bridget Louise Coutant, other family and many friends. Leslie is preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Brown, her father Victor Carlisle Coutant and her mother Mary Hartsough Coutant. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 Montana Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88005. The family wishes to thank her many friends in Tucson, Timberson and Las Cruces.
