Obituary Condolences

Rudolph (Rudy) G. Gamboa passed away at the age of 89 on July 22, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society - Las Cruces Village. He was born in Mesilla, New Mexico on February 25, 1925 to Alfredo P. Gamboa and Annie Gholson Gamboa. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucinda (Chavez) Gamboa and his sons Alfred (Donna), Ronnie (Bernice), Pat (Shannon), Tony (Diane) of Las Cruces, NM; and Louie (Lisa) of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his sister Esther (Tulley) Jackovich, twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Rudolph honorably served his country as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps from September 1942 to October 1945, when he was honorably discharged. He fought during WWII in the South Pacific. He was wounded in action in Guam, Marianas Islands in July 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Navy/Marine Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Commendation and numerous medals. He was a member of the VFW, and served as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. Rudy worked as a meat cutter at a local Food Mart and at the WSMR Commissary. He was known as an entrepreneur having owned a small grocery store in Las Cruces, a country tavern in San Miguel and was a contractor for the U.S. Army Reserve Center. He later worked and retired from Dona Ana County. Rudy also had a passion for raising small farm animals and owned his own farm for over thirty years where he thoroughly enjoyed having his grandkids visit. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Rudolph and infant daughter Patricia; his parents; Sisters Adelina Gomez, Josephine Biel-Emerson, Rosemary Salas, Annie Gamboa and Ernestine (Bebe) Moore and brothers Robert, Carlos, James, and Alfredo G. A Prayer Vigil, followed immediately by a Funeral Liturgy, will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral on July 29th, 2014 at 9:00 am. Interment of cremains will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Good Samaritan Society - Las Cruces Village.
