Santiago P. Munoz, Jr., age 89, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1924 in Vinton, Texas to Santiago Sr. and Guadalupe Pichardo Munoz. Mr. Munoz served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of VFW Post 3242. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Genoveva V. Munoz of the family home; three sons, Gabriel Munoz of Anthony, Santiago Munoz III and wife, Carla, and David Munoz and wife, Irene all of Las Cruces; three daughters, Alicia Herrera of Santa Teresa, Elva Munoz and husband Jerry Rios and Yolanda Munoz and husband, Peter Munoz all also of Las Cruces. Other survivors include three brothers, Alberto Munoz, Andres Munoz and Jose Munoz; five sisters, Josefina Cerecerez, Anita Leos, Ramona Calderon, Eulalia Munoz and Elena Rhoer all of Anthony, as well as 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Sonny Ray Munoz, brothers, Gabriel, Jesus, Antonio and Manuel Munoz, and a daughter-in-law, Yolanda M. Munoz. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the Funeral Service is scheduled for 10 a.m. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho where he will be laid to rest. Military honors will be accorded by a New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment. Serving as casket bearers will be Gabriel Munoz Jr., Christopher Herrera, PJ Munoz, Ernest Ray Munoz, David, Munoz, Jr. and Paul Munoz. Honorary bearers will be Sonny Leos, Ricky Munoz and his great-grandsons. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces. 527-2222.
