Alvin H. McMillan, (Mac) 79, a resident of Las Cruces, N.M. passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013. He was born Jan. 7, 1934 in O'Donnell, Texas to Evelyn (Lawler) and Curtis McMillan. Mac graduated from Deming High School in 1951. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War from 1951-54. For his service he received the China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (Two Stars), and the United Nations Service Medal. Mac graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor's degree in 1958 and earned his master's degree from Western New Mexico University in 1960. Coach Mac was a lifelong educator in New Mexico and Texas spending 36 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He received many awards throughout his career including; NM High School Coaches Association Athletic Director of the Year in 1987-88 and National High School Coaches Association Region Eight Athletic Director of the Year in 1988. Mac was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by six children and 10 grandchildren: Michael (Ann) McMillan, Parker, Joshua, and Luke of Silver City, N.M.; Mark (Clare) McMillan, Trevor and Jack of Denver, Colo.; Matthew (Elaine) McMillan of Albuquerque, N.M.; Martin (Amanda) McMillan, Lily, and Kaylee of Deming, N.M.; Mitchell (Harumi) McMillan Maaya, Kanta and Karin of Nagoya, Japan; Margaret McMillan of Las Cruces, N.M.; the mother of his children, Catherine of Silver City; and his sister Sandra Lobato and her children of Bloomfield, N.M. He is preceded in death by his father Curtis McMillan, mother Evelyn Lane and stepfather Louis Lane. Honoring Mac's wishes, there will be no memorial services and cremation has taken place in care of La Paz Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Mac's name to the NMAA Foundation 6600 Palomas NE Albuquerque, NM 87120.

we wish to extend our sincere condolences. We have fond memories of Mr. Mac. He was a big supporter and member of Silver Basketball during our time there. He will be missed.

Our sincere condolences to the McMillan family. The great times we had at Silver, Mac was part of it, especially the after game celebrations. He had an infectious laugh that will also be remembered by us. God Bless Him!
