Anita E. Hernandez passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2013 surrounded by loving family. Anita was born in Lordsburg, N.M. on April 7, 1931. She moved to Las Cruces in 1956 and married Alfonso Hernandez. Her career began with Western Union where she devoted over a decade of service. Anita then went on to work at New Mexico State University where she retired. Anita's love was her family and friends. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends. She loved to dance, go camping with family, traveling and being surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Alfonso; her brother Arturo (Stella) Estrada of Lordsburg; and her sister Carmen Ortega of Tucson Ariz. Her children include son Gary Hernandez of Phoenix Ariz., daughters Arleen (Henry) Roybal and Abby (Robert) Kirk of Las Cruces, son Tim (Lizabeth) Hernandez of Tucson., daughter Brenda ( Armando) Houtman of Santa Fe N.M., and son Michael Hernandez of Las Cruces. Her grandchildren include Dawn (David) Anaya, Tobias Hernandez, Andre Houtman and Justin Pena, all of Las Cruces, Leif Houtman of Temecula, Calif., Jake Hernandez and Sari Hernandez of Phoenix, Ryan Basham and Alaina Hernandez of Tucson. Great-grandchildren include Kaisha , Jaiden and Adalyn Hernandez, and Aiden and Liana Anaya, and numerous nieces and nephews. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Avelina Estrada, her brother Joe Estrada, and her sisters Frieda Noce and Dora Sambrano. Anita was an active member of St. Albert the Great Newman Parish. She will forever live on through her loving family. Visitation for Anita will be held on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 from 9 – 10 a.m. at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home Chapel with a prayer vigil to follow at 10 a.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Albert the Great (Newman Center), 2615 S.
