Anita Cano Padilla, 81, passed away of natural causes, Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Mesilla Valley Hospice ~ La Posada. Mrs. Padilla was born in Mesilla Park, N.M. in 1930. Born fourth of five children to Juan and Remedios Cano, she learned her faith, and the value of hard work from her parents as they labored in the fields of New Mexico, Colorado and surrounding areas. She met Benjamin M. Padilla in 1958 at Rexall Drug where she worked behind the soda fountain counter. They married later that same year before moving to Lafayette, La. She embraced the army life and traveled overseas to Okinawa, Japan twice and then back to Fort Bliss and Las Cruces before his retirement in 1975. She loved taking care of her yard, crocheting, making ceramics and faux flower arrangements. She is survived by her two sons; Raymond Padilla and his wife Mickie of Las Cruces, N.M., grandchildren Michael Paul, Desirea Ann Marie and SPC Alexandra Rene, one great grandchild, Amara Alicia; David Cano Padilla and his wife Jerrie of Albuquerque, N.M., grandchildren Diego Ray, Isabelle Ann, Mateo Augustine and Alejandro Jose. She was preceded in death by Benjamin M. Padilla, brother, Alfredo Cano, sister, Leonor Lucero, brother, Salomon Cano, sister, Carmen Hinojos, parents; Juan H. and Remedios R. Cano. Pallbearers will be SPC Alexandra Rene Padilla, Michael Paul Padilla, Diego Ray Padilla, John Cano Lucero, Stephen Cano and Ralph Padilla. The family of Mrs. Padilla would like to give a special thank you to the staff at La Posada for the great care they gave her, much appreciation. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 6 - 7 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 7 p.m., funeral mass Monday, June 11, 2012 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery to follow.
