Armando Mendoza, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, 70, of Las Cruces, N.M. entered eternal life on Feb. 3, 2013 surrounded by his family at home. He was born Sept. 13, 1942 in Chihuahua, Chihuahua Mexico to Maria de Jesus and Angel Mendoza. Armando is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Maria Mendoza; his son Armando and his wife Claudia, their children Armando David and America of Chandler, Ariz.; son Hector and his wife Ruth, their children Daniel and Alicia of Chandle; daughter Elizabeth, her daughter Alexis of Las Cruces; and daughter Marcy Madrid and her husband Ignacio, their children Adrian and AJ of Las Cruces; brothers Angel, Victor, Carlos, Jose and Javier; and sisters, Ana, Susy, Leticia and Maria Isabel. Armando left Chihuahua as a young man. In his late teens through the Bracero program, he worked on a ranch in Texas as a mechanic. In the mid-60s, he moved to Los Angeles, Calif. where he met his wife Maria. They started their family and he worked for Kal Kan, Inc. for over 17 years. Armando moved his family to Las Cruces in 1982 where he became self-employed as owner-operator of Mando-and-Sons Trucking. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly, always joking and being playful with them. He was a wonderful teacher, telling stories and sharing his wisdom from his many life experiences. His hobby, and what he enjoyed so much throughout the years in retirement, was working on home projects and helping family and friends with theirs. He was a skillful mechanic, welder, carpenter, plumber and handyman at everything else. The greatest memory of all, 'Mando' was truly genuine and generous with his time. There was never a project he would back away from. He would never say 'no.' always willing to lend a helping hand. Work was his blessing and he lived life fully everyday, he believed every day was a day to celebrate. His smile, sense of humor and endless spirit will be deeply missed by all. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Family and friends will gather together to celebrate the funeral mass at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
