Claudio Ruiz, 70, departed this life Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, surrounded by his loving family. Claudio was born on May 28, 1942 in Durango, Mexico and lived in Las Cruces for the past 28 years. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 40 years, Candelaria Ruiz, of the family home; one son, Luis Ruiz of Las Cruces; three daughters, Cristina Perea and husband Cuco of Las Cruces, Rocio Sosa and husband Carlos of Los Angeles, Calif., and Vanessa Ruiz and Juan Lujan also of Las Cruces. Other survivors include nine grandchildren who loved him dearly; Angelica Ruiz, Luis Angel Ruiz, Ruben Ruiz, Mariah Ruiz, Victoria Perea, Adrian Perea, Natalia Lujan, Andrea Lujan and Jacob Sosa; a brother, Filimon Ruiz of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and two nephews who were raised like his brothers, Adan Ruiz of El Paso, Texas and Enrique Ortiz of Albuquerque. Visitation for Mr. Ruiz will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral mass at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina St. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho where he will be laid to rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Socorro Acosta and Maria Calvo; two brothers, Amadeo and Filiberto Ruiz. Serving as casket bearers will be Luis Ruiz, Luis Angel Ruiz, Cuco Perea, Carlos Sosa, Juan Lujan and Enrique Ortiz. Honorary bearers will be Enrique Graciano, Roberto Ramirez and Raul Corral.
