It is with sadness that the passing of David Allan Lemen is announced. David, 82, passed away at Mesilla Valley Hospice - La Posada in Las Cruces, NM on Dec. 6, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. David was born on Nov. 28, 1931 in Council Bluffs, Ia. He spent his career in the nonprofit field as a development officer and fund raiser in Council Bluffs, Ia. and Omaha, Neb.; including 16 years as CEO for Christian Home Association/Children's Square, USA in Council Bluffs. David served his country honorably with the U.S. Army in Korea. In 2002, he moved to Las Cruces, NM and became involved in the community in many ways. He served on the board of the Las Cruces Symphony Association as an advisor to the Chamber of Commerce, and had 39 years of perfect attendance in Rotary Clubs. He supported the NMSU Aggie Scholarship Association and NMSU Dance Department as well as Las Cruces Community Theater and No Strings Theater Company. David was also involved in the MANKIND Project and was an active member at Wellspring Church. He is survived by son Scott Lemen and fiancée Lisa Solon, son Bruce Lemen and wife Jill, daughter Amy Lemen, grandchildren Phillip and Sophia Lemen, sister-in-law Martha Lemen, niece and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime, loving friend and companion Caryl Kotulak. He was predeceased by his parents George and Katherine Lemen and sister Virginia Lemen, of Council Bluffs, Ia. and brother George Lemen, of Omaha, Neb. His survivors are grateful for the wonderful staff and volunteers of Mesilla Valley Hospice - La Posada, for the care given they provided to David. A Celebration of Life will be held Dec. 17, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Getz Funeral Home and will be conducted by his friend and pastor Rev. Sam Ritchey.
