Donald William Stover (Don), 68, of Las Cruces, passed away on July 16, 2012 in Scottsdale, Ariz. , succumbing to pancreatic cancer. Don was born in Aaronsburg, Pa. on March 15, 1944 to Oran and Josephine Stover. Oran still resides there while Josephine passed in 2002. His wife of 45 years, Elaine Sawicki Stover resides in Las Cruces, N.M. Don was a graduate of DeVry University in Chicago and worked for Allied Signal in MD for 35 years. He was involved in numerous NASA projects from early unmanned missions, through the Apollo and space shuttle programs. Before retiring in 1999, he worked at the NASA White Sands Complex in Las Cruces. He was a charter member of the Old Line Statesmen Barbershop Chorus in Westminster. Don was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. Don enjoyed woodworking and built furniture and heirlooms for friends and family. Shortly after retiring he began working with Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity. As a Construction Supervisor, he participated in the building of over fifty homes. In addition to his father Oran and wife Elaine, he is survived by daughters Wendy Martin (Charlie) of Parker, Colo. and Mandy Jacobs (Kevin) of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and son-in-law Harry Maempel (Lisa) of Westminster. He is survived by grandchildren Brad, Chris, Katelyn, Connor, Lauren, Rebecca, and Isabella. Daughter Amy Maempel of Westminster preceded him in death in 2000. A memorial service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church at 1701 E. Missouri Ave. on July 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity at 720 N.
