Eliu I. Sanchez, a Deming resident, passed away quietly in his sleep on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Sierra Nursing Home in Truth or Consequences, N.M. Eliu was born on Oct. 25, 1925, to Liberato and Marcelina (Sanchez) Jaramillo in Cochillo, N.M. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Deming. At the age of 19, he joined the Army and served his country honorably. Soon after that, he met and married Lugencia Charies, they had been married for 67 years at the time of his death. He was a carpenter by trade and worked for many construction companies in town. He worked very hard all of his life. He loved music and he also loved to take momma dancing. He is survived by his wife, Lugencia, of the family home; three sons, Richard and his wife, Grace, of Las Cruces, N.M.; William and his wife, Mapi, also of Las Cruces, N.M.; and Andrew and his wife, Maria, of Deming, N.M.; one daughter, Rosalie Orozco of Milpitas, Calif.; 10 grandchildren: Richie, Lorrie, Alvillan and Matthew Sanchez, Estaban Sanchez Orozco, Monique Sanchez Orozco, Bridgett Sanchez Tobias, Amy Sanchez, Angela Sanchez and Andrew Sanchez; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, one brother; one son-in-law, Carlos Orozco; and one grandson, Nicky Sanchez. Dad, you are greatly missed by all of us. We have peace in our hearts knowing that you are joined by those who have gone before you and are no longer in pain, and we will see you again. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming, with Father Ron Machado reciting.
