Genevieve H Barela, 80, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully at home on July 24th, 2014. She was born in Las Cruces, NM on July 17th, 1934, and was the oldest of 7 siblings. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Henry, whose 35 year military career took her to many places including Germany, Hawaii, Alaska, and many different states before settling in Mesa, AZ in 1982. Survivors also include her 3 children: Margaret Barela, Ron (Christine) Barela, Yvonne (Melissa) Barela, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters: Arthur Holguin and wife Julia, Leo Holguin and wife Luz, Gloria Galaz, Guadalupe (Pita) Espinoza and husband Gus, Yolanda Medina and husband Manuel, and Alfonso Holguin and wife Barbara, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Leocadio (Cayo) and Simona (Nono) Holguin. Memorial service was held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Friday, August 8th.
