Herbert C. Bowling, 85, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 to be reunited with his wife Dixie, who preceded him in death. He was born Oct. 17, 1928 to George and Hazel Bowling in Bloomfield, Iowa. It was here he met and married Dixie McCord on Aug. 21, 1948, remaining sweethearts and best friends for over 63 years. He became a teacher, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and secondary Fine Arts certificate in 1952 from North East Missouri State Teachers College. In 1960 he completed a Master of Arts degree from Eastern New Mexico University. He taught Art and Drafting classes at Mayfield and Las Cruces High Schools in Las Cruces, New Mexico until his retirement. A talented artist, he also enjoyed organic gardening and genealogy. He and his wife later relocated to Georgetown, Texas to be nearer to their children. He was surrounded by family at his bedside when he passed away in Grapevine, Texas. Services to be held in Grapevine with burial immediately following at the Grapevine Historical Cemetery. Survived by his daughters; Betsy Cooley and husband David of Grapevine, Texas, Merydith and husband Bob of Mena, Arkansas, Jennifer Spradlin and husband Roger of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren Matthew Cooley, Michael Cooley and wife Alma, Michelle Moriarty and husband Mark, Meredith Dixon and husband Patrick, Rafe Mathiews and wife Tara, Melissa Blakely, Marlaina Ketchum and husband Justin, Mackenzie Blakely and five great-grandchildren; as well as various nieces and nephews.
