Hipolito C. Mendez, 87, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Sunday, March 17, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 13, 1925 in Cigarrero, Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose and Ladislada Cordero Mendez. Hipolito was a carpenter by trade and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include five sons, Victor Mendez and wife Leticia of California, Antonio Mendez and Javier Mendez both of El Paso, Texas, Jose F. Mendez and wife Lourdes and Hipolito S. Mendez, Jr., all of Las Cruces; two daughters, Marisela Reyes and husband Alberto of Vado and Lupe M. Valenzuela and husband Edward; one brother, Pascual Mendez, all also of Las Cruces; and a sister, Antonia Aragon and husband Arturo of El Paso. Other survivors include 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Guadalupe S. Mendez in 2008; brother, Manuel Mendez, two sisters; Guadalupe Mendez and Bertha Rodriguez; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Mendez in 2012. Visitation for Mr. Mendez will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. The holy mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina St. with the Rev. Juan Moreno, Celebrant. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Ave. where he will lay to rest next to his wife. Serving as casket bearers will be Johnny Mendez, Michael Beauregard, Eddie Mendez, Alberto Reyes, Jr., Matthew Valenzuela, Jose Miguel Mendez, Alex Mendez, Jose Mendez, Jr. and Gabriel Valenzuela.
