Obituary Condolences

Hortensia "Tencha" Cadena went to her heavenly reward to be in the arms of our Father whom she loved and prayed to daily, on August 5, 2012. She was born on January 20, 1920 in Jimenez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Miguel and Maria Chaparro. Tencha came to Las Cruces in 1946 and proudly became a US citizen in 1968. Tencha strongly believed in the importance of education, service to others and in her Catholic Faith. She sang her devotion to God for many years in the St. Genevieve's Spanish Mass Choir. Tencha proudly worked for several years as a nursing assistant at Memorial General Hospital, now MMC, and had fond memories of her time there and all the friends she made. She was a strong influence on her children's education and lives and her proudest moments came in all of their successes. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Tiburcio "Tito" Cadena, son Daniel Cadena, sisters Carmen Contreras, Consuelo Diaz, and Teresa Lopez, and brothers, Enrique Chaparro, Manuel Chaparro and Luis Chaparro.Tencha is survived by a daughter, Olga Elma Sorensen (husband Gary) of Las Cruces, and sons Ruben Cadena of Montrose, Alabama, Dr. Rolando Cadena (wife, Dr. Linda Dunlap-Cadena) of Las Cruces, Edward Cadena (wife, DeeAnne) of Albuquerque, and Dr. Carlos Cadena (wife, Shirley) of Las Cruces. Hortensia is also survived by her beloved niece, Alicia Lopez, and grandchildren Amy Juarros, Erika Sorensen, Daniel Cadena Jr., Andrew and Kevin Cadena, Clair, Abram, Isaac, Mathias, Lucas, and Eliana Cadena. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Mikayla and Taylor Juarros and Damian and Dean Cadena, and also by her son Ruben's stepdaughter, Christa and her three children (Laura Jane, Campbell and Thomas), along with many much beloved nieces and nephews and their families. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 in Basilica of San Albino, Mesilla, NM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 in the same church with the Most Reverend Bishop Ricardo Ramirez officiating. Per our parent's wishes, Tencha's cremains will be placed in our father's casket and they both will be interred following the mass at San Albino's Cemetery. At this time Tito's military honors will be recognized for his years of service, as well. Military honors will be accorded by the New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment.
