James Carrillo Obituary
James R. Carrillo (Jimmy), age 69 was called home on August 15, 2014 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Cruces New Mexico. He was born May 1, 1945 son of Cosme Carrillo and Clara Cadena Carrillo.
Jimmy was a wonderful father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend, and VFW Comrade. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a gunners-mate aboard the USS Oklahoma City during the Vietnam Conflict. He earned several commendations including the Armed Forces Expeditionary, the Vietnam Campaign, and the National Defense Service Medals. Jimmy earned an Associate's degree in Accounting but his true passion was working as a handyman. He loved his home and took great pride in its upkeep, landscaping and gardening. Jimmy loved his music and spent hours listening to various artists. He was also an avid Oakland Raiders football fan. By far, the most important thing to Jimmy was his family he loved dearly and cared for in every way possible.
He is preceded in death by his parents Cosme and Clara Carrillo, his sister Alice Ann Archuleta, brother Heriberto (Eddie) Carrillo, and brother George S. Carrillo. He is survived by his beloved girlfriend and best friend Dawn Gonzales, brothers Rudy Carrillo (Pat), Ray Carrillo (Norma), and Joel Carrillo (Linda), daughters Desiree Carrillo (Larry), and Camille Sanchez-Wiley, step-children Michelle Gonzales and Corey Amador, grandchildren Dewayne Hill, Sarina Sanchez, Rony Wiley, Shawntae Wiley, Rachel Carrillo, Santino Carrillo, and Shyann Trujillo, great-grandchildren Demetrio, Precious, Deoness, Xzayvion, Davina, Damion, Greyson, Remy, Zariah, and Nicole, and many nieces and nephews. His passing is a profound loss for our family and his warm smile, sense of humor, and love of life will be greatly missed.
Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service at La Paz-Grahams Funeral Home, 555 W. Amador, Las Cruces, NM on Friday August 22. Facility opens at 10:00 am and memorial service will commence at 11:00 am. Immediately following, everyone is invited to attend the reception at the VFW 2001 North Mesquite Street.
