Former Hatch resident, Dr. James Thompson died Sunday, Oct. 14 as the result of a plane crash in Tucson, Ariz. A memorial service will be held 11a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Hatch, N.M. Dr. Thompson was born Aug. 6, 1955 in Las Cruces, N.M. He was valedictorian of his graduating class Hatch Valley High School class of 1973, and FFA president for the state of New Mexico. Dr. Thompson was the owner of El Centro Animal Clinic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Pearl Thompson; and his brother, Wesley Thompson. Dr. Thompson leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Kaye Thompson; daughter, Kimberly Mata and husband, Gabe; 2 grandsons, Isai and Ian Mata; brothers, Bob Thompson and wife, Martha, and Joe Thompson and wife, Pattie; sister, Alice Watson and husband, Clarence; and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. The family suggests memorials to El Centro California Humane Society. A memorial scholarship fund will be set up at a later date.
