Juan Roberto "John" Narvaez, 57, of Las Cruces, was taken on silver wings to be with our Lord on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. John, as he was fondly known to his family and friends, was born and raised in Las Cruces on June 26, 1955 to Arthur and Elisa Narvaez. He was a Marine, a Vietnam combat veteran, and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Meritorious Mast, and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He served his country valiantly. At the time of his death, John was employed as an engineer technician at White Sands Missile Range for over 30 years. John was an angel on earth to the people around him. He was a great husband, father and was also a very generous person always offering to help people in need. John was fascinated with eagles. He loved and collected bald eagles and was known by many of his family and friends as "Silver Eagle." Survivors include his loving wife of 17 years, Gloria Narvaez; two sons, Jason Narvaez and Josh Villalva; daughter, Crystal Villalva; and a grandson, Jack Cash Narvaez. He is also survived by his parents, Arthur R. and Elisa P. Narvaez; three brothers, Arthur Narvaez II and wife Josie, Henry Narvaez and wife Diane, Jacob Narvaez and wife Patsy; a sister, Lorraine Licon and husband Ruben as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation for John will be held Tuesday (today), Jan. 22, 2013 from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. in St. Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ricardo Bauza officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date.
