Lawrence "Larry" Howard left this world Monday, September 10, 2012. He was born August 23, 1923 in Eagle Rock, California to Edward and Mary Frances Howard. During his school days he competed in football, as well as track and field. Following graduation and two weeks after his eighteenth birthday, he proudly enlisted in the United State Navy, served on the USS LeHardy during WWII as a Gunners Mate 2nd class in the Pacific. After his honorable discharge, he married Jane Doak, attended the California Highway Patrol Academy in Sacramento, California. Larry served as a motor officer in southern Los Angeles; retired after 32 years and was a member of the California Association of Highway Patrol. As the years passed, Larry was honored to be recognized by whom he had trained on the force. He moved to New Mexico and continued his greatest passions, wood working, fresh water fishing, ocean fishing with family and friends and enjoyed visits with his old motor buddies as they passed thru town. With his eternal companion and adoring wife, Barbara, their travels brought them fulfillment and the greatest appreciation for this blessed land he loved so dearly. Larry's laughter invited all to share with him. "Mr. Smoothie" as he was called on the dance floor was blessed with four children who are left to mourn his passing; including his loving wife Barbara Howard of the family home; two daughters, Ellen and husband Al of Fairfax Virginia, Cathy Cox and husband, Jim of Cerritos, California; two sons, David Howard of Thousand Oaks California, John Howard and wife, Debbie of Irvine, California.
