Lila Juul Obituary
Lila Eilene Juul passed away Jan. 14, 2013 in Las Cruces, N.M. She was born Nov. 6, 1926 in Nebraska to Clyde and Doris Fitzpatrick. She was a bon vivant, wayfarer, impresario, epicure, dedicated wife and mother, indomitable spirit and faithful servant of God. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John (Jay) Juul and is survived by her children, John Juul, wife Roxie of Colorado, and her daughter Rebecca Wible and husband Thomas Wible of Washington, several cousins and great friends whose lives she touched in Florida and New Mexico. Lila and Jay established the first dinner theater in the state of Colorado, in Nederland, where Lila could practice her Cordon Bleu chef skills. There, she was able to oversee restaurant operations while also taking John skiing at the lunch hour in winter and hauling horse trailers in the summer so Rebecca could participate in parade events. She and Jay also established and operated a large pistachio orchard in Tularosa. Widely traveled, Lila visited every continent and, with her magnetic personality, made friends at every stop. She climbed the Great Wall, cruised the Neva River in Russia and visited Stonehenge where it's reported she rearranged the rocks to be more artistic. She lived a National Geographic life and never made cupcakes when she could make cream puffs. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St Mary's at Hill Anglican Church 7985 Doña Ana Road, Las Cruces, NM 88004 at 9 a.m. on Sunday Jan. 27. A reception with light refreshments will follow the service. Remembrances may be made to St Mary's at Hill, or, to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047.
