Manuela Chacon Carrillo, 91, lifetime Grant County resident passed away at Casa Arena Blanca Nursing Center in Alamogordo, Monday Oct. 15, 2012. Friends and family may visit at the San Jose Catholic Church in Dwyer Saturday Oct. 20, 2012 beginning at 12 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated there at 1p.m. and the rite of committal and interment will follow at the San Jose Cemetery. Fr. Roberto Barreto, Pastor, will officiate. "Nena" as she was affectionately known was born in Dwyer in the Mimbres Valley April 17, 1921 to Mercedes Regalado and Juan Chacon. She attended local grammar school and on Jan. 1, 1940 she married Manuel Carrillo in Deming. She worked along her husband's side at Carrillo's Store and the Faywood Post Office. Their mercantile was the center of the community and they looked after all the neighbors and their children with great esteem. Upon retiring from the business she enjoyed being active in the Senior Center activities and was the caretaker at the San Jose Catholic Church until her health no longer permitted. She then moved to Alamogordo to live with her niece, Lena Castorena, whom they had raised, until her passing. Survivors include her daughter, Lena Castorena and her 3 children, Billy, Jimmy and Linda and their children; brother, Abran (Abie) Chacon of Dwyer and sister, Vera Ramirez, Venice, CA. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Manuel Carrillo; two brothers, Juan and Ramon Chacon and two sisters, Maria Baca and Frances Peña. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.
