Maria Santos S. Mendez, 87, passed away to enter heaven on Monday, July 2, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. A faithful follower of Jesus, she never missed a day of prayer. She was born on Nov. 1, 1924, in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico to Martina (Pulido) Sepulveda and Tomas Sepulveda. She married Julio Q. Mendez and together they had six children. She enjoyed games of chance and visiting casinos with her daughters when traveling, which she liked to do. Maria loved sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening. She never met a plant she didn't like. She was preceded in death by husband Julio and her mother Martina Sosa. She is survived by her six children: Julio (and Elizabeth) Mendez, Joe (and Eva) Mendez, Tomas (and Marteil) Mendez, Luis Mendez, Lourdes Mendez, and Veronica Mendez. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kreshna Marquez, Kristi Marquez, Julio G. Mendez, Francisco 'Kiko' Mendez, Natalia Mendez, Julian C. Mendez, Richard L. Mendez, Gabriel T. Mendez, Emily M. Mendez, Lucas Mendez, and Abigail Mendez. She is survived by three siblings as well: Martina Campos, Soledad Sosa, and Joe Sosa and their families; all of El Paso, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A rosary will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at St. Genevieve Church, 100 S. Espina in Las Cruces followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., also at St. Genevieve Church, Ricardo Bauza, celebrant. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens , Las Cruces where she will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Francisco 'Kiko' Mendez, Julio G. Mendez, Richard Mendez, Julian C. Mendez, Gabriel T. Mendez, Lucas Mendez, Lonnie Orona, and honorary casket bearer, Jonathan X. Marquez. Services have been entrusted to La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.
