Milton Walter Arthur Schmidt, formerly of Denver, Colorado, and a resident since 2000 of Las Cruces, New Mexico, died in Las Cruces on February 18, 2014, at the age of 94. The son of Theodore and Flora (Kiehnhoff) Schmidt, Milton was born on November 8, 1919, in Wakefield, Nebraska. He attended high school and college at Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska. Upon graduating in 1941 he became the teacher at Zion Lutheran School in Ocheyedan, Iowa. He served Lutheran congregations as teacher and/or principal in Quincy, Illinois; Addison, Illinois; and Denver, Colorado. He also was on the teaching staff of Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Illinois. He served for more than 20 years as a teacher and administrator in the Cherry Creek Public Schools of Englewood, Colorado. He held a Master of Arts degree from the University of Denver. After retiring from professional life in 1986, he lived in California, Colorado, and New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of more than 69 years, Marcella (Moeller) Schmidt, daughters Susan Schmidt and Nancy Koch, and grandchildren Brian Koch, Gwyneth Lloyd-Jones, and Rebecca Lloyd-Jones. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 8 at Mission Lutheran Church in Las Cruces.
