Miriam Walker, April 17, 1930- Jan. 29, 2014. She was born in De Kalb, Miss. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Col. William O. Walker. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a bachelor of science in chemistry. She loved education and continued to take college courses to improve herself over the course of her life. She later earned a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in reading from Mississippi State University. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star and a life member of Rosetta Temple No. 61., Daughters of the Nile. She is survived by a son, William O. Walker Jr., M.D., his wife, Patsy Walker, of University Place, Wash., a daughter, Carol W. Turner of Las Cruces, N.M., one grandson, William Lathrop Walker, five granddaughters, Kathryn Ryan Walker, Natalie Noel Clayshulte, Tiffany Colleen Ramirez, Holly Joy Wilber, and Ivy Hope Amini, and three great-grandchildren, Aaron Paul Ramirez, Eli Patrick Wilber, and Madeline Ivy Wilber. Mrs. Walker will lie in state Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home on Montana. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Chapel. Burial will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
