Reyes "Ray" Alvidrez, 76 of Las Cruces entered eternal life Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Advanced Care Hospital surrounded by his loving family. "Ray", as he was fondly known to family and friends, was born Dec. 4, 1936 in Brazito to Reyes, Jr. and Francisca Rivera Alvidrez. He worked for the Public Water Works as a superintendent for the City of Westminster, California for 31years. Not only was water technology his passion but also his desire to help others with home improvement projects. Ray loved people and people loved Ray. No matter the situation, his sense of humor was always present. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Minerva Ruiz Alvidrez of the family home; a daughter, Barbara Pratte (Michael) of Fullerton, Calif.; a son, Michael Alvidrez (Franny) of Rio Rancho. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Michael, Chris, Joseph and Tara; eight great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jr., Alexandra, Irene, Danielle, Christina, Pennie, Mae and Ava; one brother, Ruben Alvidrez of El Paso, Texas, and four sisters, Edna Mae Barela (Johnny) and Jenny Lou Meehan (Michael) all of Las Cruces, Rosie Yuhas (John) of Livermore, Calif. and Priscilla Klein (Ralph) of Redmond, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Antonia Alvidrez, a brother, Henry Alvidrez, a grandson, Daniel, and a sister-in-law, Yolanda. At Mr. Alvidrez's request cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Living Waters Assembly of God Church, 900 E. Bowman Street with Pastor Conrad Valdez officiating. Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date.
