Robert C. Fernandez, 82 of Las Cruces entered the kingdom of God, Thursday, July 5, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born April 22, 1930 in Doña Ana to Sixto and Trine Cuaron Fernandez. He was a well decorated Master Sergeant in U.S. Army. At the age of nineteen he served in the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.Those left to mourn his passing include his five sons, Robert Fernandez, Jr., Michael Fernandez, Ysidro Tito Fernandez and Gregory C. Fernandez all of Las Cruces and Sixto Fernandez and wife Rudrina of California; four daughters, Roberta Copeland and husband Bob of Branson, Missouri, Sandra Fernandez, Debbie Ybarvo and husband Ismael, and Trine Fernandez Rodriguez, all also of Las Cruces; two brothers, Sixto Fernandez of Las Cruces and Sammy Fernandez of California; four sisters, Lupe Banda also of California, Nora Reyes, Rosella Trujillo and Rita Fernandez all of Las Cruces. Other survivors include thirty-nine grandchildren, forty-nine great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beautiful wife, Gloria Velasquez Fernandez, two brothers, Arturo and Ernesto Fernandez, and son-in-law, Cesar A. Rodriguez. Visitation for Mr. Fernandez will begin at 6 PM Monday, July 9, 2012 at Living Way Church, 4211 Elks Drive, where the Evening Service is scheduled for 7 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in the same church with Pastors Mark and Kathy Jordan officiating. Concluding Service and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue where he will be laid to rest next to his wife. Military honors will be accorded by the New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League- El Perro Diablo Detachment.Serving as casket bearers will be all his grandsons, Dominic, Patrick, Brannden, Robert and Joe Fernandez, Mike, Matthew, and Mario Sanchez, The Fernandez Family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E.
