Shelley Diane Hayner Obituary
Shelley Diane Cataldo Hayner, age 65, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at La Posada - Mesilla Valley Hospice. She was born July 23, 1947in Barron, Wisconsin. Shelley and her brother Gary were raised on their grandparent's farm near Barron, until she was seven years of age when they moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin to be with their mother. In 1961 the family moved to Las Cruces where Shelley graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1965. Shelley studied voice at the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music where she performed Light Operas at the Skylight Theater, her most memorable role being the female lead in The Fantastic. Shelley's proudest performance was singing the Star-Spangled Banner at the 4th of July festivities at Aggie Memorial Stadium. She earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from New Mexico State University in 1977 and a master's degree in Business Finance from Colorado State University in 1979; where she was the only female in the master's program. Her professional business career took her to Escondido, California; Appleton, Wisconsin; Anchorage, Alaska; Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Las Cruces. She served as a Product Manager, Company Comptroller, General Manager, Independent Business Consultant and a trainer in Total Quality Management. She was the Director of Quality Training at the National Association of Homebuilders Research Center. Shelley wrote and produced a TQM training video and did numerous speaking engagements on Building Excellence with Quality. Following the death of her husband, William Hayner in 1995, she purchased her pecan farm in Hatch where she also raised, dogs and cats. Shelley is survived by her mother, Harriet Pinnock of Las Cruces; her brother, Gary Cataldo and wife, Grace of Austin, TX; nephews, Greg Cataldo of Austin, TX and Robert Cataldo of Richmond, VA; grandnephews, Luis, Conner and Kobe, and grandniece, Isabella Cataldo of Magnolia, TX; and friend and companion, Mr. Jim Jernigan of Las Cruces. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to La Casa Women's Shelter, La Casa Inc., P.O. Box 2463, Las Cruces, NM 88004. Visitation for Mrs. Hayner will begin at 1 PM Monday, July 15, 2013 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the afternoon service is scheduled for 2 PM with Ronnie Franzoy officiating. Concluding Service and Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road where she will lay to rest next to her husband.
