Thomas James Ayres, 82, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2008. He was born in Ashland, La., in 1925. Thomas was a former U.S. Army master sergeant, and served in 2nd Armoured Division in World War II and was a POW for 14 months.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Cruz F. Ayres; daughter, Dolly A. Hipple, and son-in-law, William F. Hipple Jr.; grandchildren John W. McDowell II; William F. Hipple III; and Stefanie Renee Beeth; two great-grandchildren, Jesse M. Beeth and Clinton D. Beeth; also his two step-daughters Sona Patel and Cynthia Flores; brother, James Russell Ayres Jr. and sisters, Madine Bailey and Matise Swindle. He was survived by both sons, Thomas J. Ayres Jr. and Randall M. Ayres, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Thomas was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the West Side Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 15, at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. with funeral service on Monday, June 16, 2008, at 6 p.m. Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Fort Bliss Cemetery in El Paso, Texas, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
