Thomas "Tom" A. Zubia, 56, of Las Cruces, N.M., met the Lord on Dec. 10, 2012. Tom was the eldest of the family of which they all relied on him for wisdom, strength and good counsel. He graduated from Las Cruces High School, Class of 1975. Tom was a proud football player, and was happy the Bulldawgs won the state football championship this year. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and adored his grandchildren. He loved working on his farmland and his father's ranch in Mexico. He was a great father who was putting three of his children through college. Tom worked for Valley Transit Mix for 16 years and later became co-owner/operator of Zubia Farms Trucking. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Leandro and Maria Magdalena Zubia; his mother-in-law, Senobia Chavez, and brother-in-law, Ray Chavez, Jr. Tom is survived by his wife, Debbie, son Tom Zubia Jr.; daughters Levi Venegas, Santa Fe Zubia, Jessica Zubia; grandchildren Ori Zubia Lopez, and Santos Harrison Zubia; and brothers; Leandro Jr.(Yolanda), Adolf (Beverlye), Joe, Erasmo (Cindy), Frank (Gloria) and Lorenzo Lopez and sisters; Maria Soledad, Guadalupe (Roy) Cardenas, Maria Magdalena Candia, Socorro (Sabrina), Cecilia Garcia (George), Gabriela Crews; and his loyal dog "Barney," Honorary pallbearers are Ramon Chavez, Bill Baker, Ignacio Gonzalez, Skipper Zumwalt and Val Barela. A rosary will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Dec. 14, 2012 at 6 p.m. The celebration of life mass will be at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at 10 a.m. At his request cremation has taken place.
