Mary Katherine "Kate" Braneff (nee Rice) – Kate passed away at age 51 on December 16, 2010 in Sulphur, Louisiana. Kate was born June 25, 1959 in Las Cruces, New Mexico and recently lived in Merryville, LA. She is survived by her husband Randall "Randy" Braneff of Merryville, LA; three sons, George "Duce" Randall Braneff II and fiancé Emily of DeQuincy, LA, and Layon Braneff and Logan Braneff of Louisiana: a daughter Ashleigh Braneff of Lake Charles, LA.; Kate's parents, Patsy and Bill Rice of Las Cruces, NM; her two brothers Rex Rice and wife Debbie of St. Louis, MO, and Bill Rice and wife Paula of Albuquerque, NM; a niece Kathleen of New Mexico; and two grandchildren Tyler and Braylon of Louisiana.

Kate graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1977 and from New Mexico State University in 1981. She worked as an accountant in El Paso and Las Cruces. She spent much of her career working for NMSU prior to moving to Louisiana. While growing up in Las Cruces, Kate was a member of of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls Ruth Laws Assembly reaching the office of Worthy Advisor in 1975 and she attended University United Methodist Church. Family members remember Kate as a caring person who would do anything for those she loved. Generous and loyal to a fault, she always put others before herself. Her family misses her deeply. She is in a better place.
In keeping with her desires, Kate will be cremated and returned to Las Cruces for a memorial celebration of her life to be held at University United Methodist Church on December 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm. (2000 South Locust St., Las Cruces). No interment is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley would be appreciated (3551 Bataan Memorial West, Las Cruces,NM 88012)
