It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, Don S. Martinez, 55, lifelong resident of San Miguel on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 in the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Born May 11, 1958 to Jose Victor and Celia Sapien Martinez, Don was a Network Specialist Contractor, who received his Bachelor's degree from NMSU in electrical Engineering Technology. He was a communicant at San Miguel Catholic Church where he was a lecturer, and assistant cemetery caretaker. Don was known as an avid Oakland Raiders, Boston Celtics, and New York Yankees fan. He was also a Gadsden Alumni and a loyal Panther. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 28 years, Grace M. Martinez of the family home; a daughter, Olivia Andrea Martinez; a son, Victor Ray Martinez; his parents, Jose Victor and Celia Martinez all of San Miguel; a brother, Larry Martinez and wife Priscilla of Chamberino; four sisters, Barbara Franco and husband Hector, Norma Ruskey and husband Thomas all of Las Cruces, Sylvia Tinajero and husband Sonny of Mesquite, and Judy Martinez of San Miguel. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Esther Montoya of San Pablo as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Victor S. Martinez; maternal grandparents, Ramon and Angelita Sapien; paternal grandparents, Clemente O. and Ricarda B. Martinez; an aunt, Rumalda Martinez; three uncles, Ernesto Martinez, Ramon Garcia and Jose ""Mike"" Otero. Visitation for Don will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 in San Miguel Catholic Church, 19217 S. Highway 28 where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Holy Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the same church with Reverend Ray Flores officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the San Miguel Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Phillip Franco, Patrick Martinez, Christopher Ruskey, Sonny Tinajero, Rudy Garcia, and Armando Montoya.
