Rosalie M. Mondragon, 74, a resident of Tyrone, N.M., entered eternal rest Monday, March 3, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 3, 1939 in Dawson, N.M., to Jose A. and Cora Martinez Cruz Sr. The oldest of 12 children, she helped raise and care for her younger sisters and brothers until she married Pedro Mondragon in Greeley, Colo., on Nov. 16, 1959. During her 54-year marriage, they raised four children and one granddaughter. Rose enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and working on her crossword puzzles. Her evenings were spent watching reality TV shows, but Sundays during football season were spent cheering on her Denver Broncos. Rose devoted her life to her family, taking great pride in teaching them the value of hard work. Rose is survived by her husband of 54 years, Pete; daughters, Cynthia, Stephanie and Amber; and son, Jimmy. She is also survived by 10 sisters and brothers, Edna Roybal (Albert) of Eaton, Colo.; Joe Cruz Jr.(Florence) of Clifton, Ariz.; George Cruz (Lucy) of Silver City; Helen Sanchez (Felimon) of Tyrone; Art Cruz (Virgie) of Silver City; Tony Cruz (Priscilla) of Tyrone; Emma Aguirre (Mike) of Silver City; Pat Cruz (Donna) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Kathy Flores (Fernando) of Silver City; and Tom Cruz (Melinda) of Fort Collins, Colo., as well as two sisters-in-law, Vera Welliver of Grand Junction, Colo., and Carla Hurtado (Paul) of Johnstown, Colo. Also surviving her are numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kimberlee; her parents, Joe Sr. and Cora Cruz; baby sister, Phyllis Cruz, and nephew, Paul Sanchez. Visitation will be Friday, March 7, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary to begin at 6 p.m. with Dr. Gilbert Arizaga reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Newman Center with the Rev. Tony Basso officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews, Cruz Sanchez, Joseph and Kody Aguirre, Luis Cruz, Christina Flores and Espi Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining nieces and nephews.
