It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose Guadalupe Zavala, Sr., 54, of Anthony, on Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Lupe, as he was fondly known to family and friends, was born Jan. 12, 1960 in El Paso, Texas to Antonio Sr. and Loreto Muñoz Zavala. He worked as a landscaper for many years, and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include six sons, David Zavala, Richard Zavala and wife Sami Jo, all of Las Vegas, Nev., Jose Guadalupe Zavala, Jr., Patrick Zavala and Isaac Zavala, all of Anthony, Alejandro Zavala of Chaparral; two daughters, Priscilla Zavala of Las Vegas, Nev. and Virginia Zavala; his mother, Loreto Zavala, of Anthony; his wife, Herlinda Flores Zavala of Albuquerque; three brothers, Juan Zavala and wife Cuca of Anthony, Hilaro Zavala and Antonio Zavala, Jr. and wife Elia all of Las Cruces; three sisters, Ernestina Morales and husband Victor, Victoria Dominguez and Rosa Zavala all of Anthony. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Lupe was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, Herman Dominguez, in 2013. Visitation for Lupe will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 224 Lincoln Street in Anthony, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 10 a.m. The Holy Mass of Resurrection will follow immediately thereafter with the Augustinian Recollects officiating. At his request, cremation will take place and internment of cremains will be held at a later date. Serving as casket bearers will be David, Richard, Jose Guadalupe Jr., Patrick, Isaac and Veronica Zavala.
