On Thursday, March 20, 2014, our beloved husband and father, Joe A. Reyes, 83, of Las Cruces, entered eternal life to be with his heavenly Father at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born June 25, 1930 in Fairacres, NM to Isabel and Lupe Alaniz Reyes. Joe served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 50 years, Maria Teresa Landa Reyes of the family home; three sons, Eddie L. Reyes and wife Sandra of Stafford, Va., Henry L. Reyes and Christina of Las Cruces, and Luis L. Reyes and wife Maria of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Rachel L. Reyes of Leesburg, Va.; two sisters, Petra R. Barela of Las Cruces and Nica R. Rodriguez of Mesquite, NM; four brothers, Isabel Jr., Ramon and Alberto Reyes, all of Las Cruces, and Frankie Reyes of Grand Prairie, Texas. Other survivors include six grandchildren: Bianca, Christian, Luis, Joseph, Stephanie and Aden Reyes. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Refujio and Lupe O. Reyes. Mr. Reyes will be reposing Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road. The Prayer Vigil will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda Street, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with the Rev. Alejandro Reyes, Celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded by the New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League El Perro Diablo Detachment. At his request, cremation will take place and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date in San Albino Cemetery in Old Mesilla, NM.
