Franklin A. Jenkins, 88 years of age, of Las Cruces, NM, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Franklin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He was born on December 18, 1925, in Newark, NJ to Fred and Reine Jenkins. Franklin married Nancy Schurr on June 21,1952; they had 61 years together. He served his country honorably in World War II with the United States Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet, in training to be a pilot in the South Pacific. Franklin attended Muhlenberg College and Newark College of Engineering. He was employed by Hoffman-La Roche Pharmaceutical Company in Nutley, NJ at their Institute of Molecular Biology. He retired after 40 years of service. Franklin is survived by his wife Nancy Jenkins of the family home, son Christopher Jenkins of Westbrook, ME, daughter Lauren Ball and husband Randall of Glen Ellyn, IL, grandchildren, Brandon Jenkins, Ashley Green, Dylan Jenkins, Katherine Ball and Allison Ball and great-grandchildren, Connor Green and Hailey Green. He is also survived by cousins, Robert and Allen Cosgrove, and close friends, Linda and Fred Hurd and their children Rob and Becky. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 518 N. Alameda, Las Cruces, NM on Monday, April 14, 2014, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, Franklin's family asks that donations be made in his name to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88005.
