Jackie Petrowsky, 69, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at La Posada – Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born Jan. 1, 1945 to Albert and Rachelle Petrowsky. Jackie was born and raised in New York, graduated from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He worked at the United States Post Office. Jack was proudest of being a US Marine who served in the Vietnam War. Both he and his wife were the volunteer coordinators for 18 years of the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program in Doña Ana County. Jack was a member of the Marine Corps League where he was named Marine of the Year. He served 10 years on the Mayor's Veterans Council and was the recipient of the Mayor's Award for his participation on the City Council and for his leadership in support of local veteran's services. Jack served on the burial honor guard for the Marine Corps League and organized the placing of flags on the graves of veterans on holidays. He served as President of the NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers) Union. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of forty years, Peggy; his daughter, Jaime and grandson, Jakob; his "brother" Jack Aboulafia; nieces, Carrie Thorpe and Kim Costello; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Michael Michel; niece, Jennifer Zorn; nephews, James and Dr. Michael Michel and large extended family and friends. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. Concluding Service and Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress with military honors accorded by a Marine Corps League Honor Guard. Serving as honorary bearers will be the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment. Jack was a very giving man and has instilled in his grandson the will to help others and respect for our veterans and all people. He will be greatly missed by many people.
